Thanks to Lew Talmadge we have these photos from St. Mary’s Christmas party. Unfortunately Christine and I were unable to attend as we were on our way to the Philippines for Christmas, but Lew did a great job filling in as the official photographer.

Ms. Julie Gallenger, St. Mary’s oldest parishioner at 99, was on hand for this past Saturday’s ladies’ luncheon. In fact, a total of 28 of St. Mary’s ladies were on hand to socialize, share a meal and grow closer as a community.

The event was organized by Sue Granger, who definitely plans to do this again.

KDCCW 21st Convention opens with Memorial Mass celebrated by Bishop Stika for all the women of the diocese who died this year, called by name. Mass at 5:00 PM.

St. Mary’s parish Christmas party was held today at the McMinn Senior Center. There were so many people in attendance that additional chairs and tables had to be set up. Great food & fellowship, entertainment and an appearance by Santa were the highlights of the event.

Members and spouses of the parish council, finance and steering committees were treated to an appreciation dinner at the Athens Diner on Friday, December 4. The event was hosted by Fr. William.

The following morning these “parish servants” participated in a Day of Recollection. This Advent retreat focused on examination of conscience and was led by Deacon Sean Smith, Chancellor of the Diocese of Knoxville.

A bilingual Mass will be celebrated on Sunday, September 6, at 11:00 a.m. There will be no 10:00 or 1:00 Mass this day.

Following the Mass the Knights of Columbus will be grilling hot dogs for all to enjoy. Sign-up sheets for covered dishes will be in the Narthex following all Masses this weekend.

Fr. William celebrated the 10th anniversary of his priesthood on Thursday, August 13. At the conclusion of a parish planning meeting that evening, Fr. William posed for a picture before he cut and shared his anniversary cake.

Congratulations, Fr. William! We hope your next several years will be spent with us here at St. Mary’s.

All 6th-12th grade youth and their parents are invited to a summer youth party this Sunday, Aug. 2nd, at 3:00 p.m. at the Maentz’s home in Spring City. Our new pastor, Fr. William, plans to attend and it will be a great opportunity to get to know him in a casual setting. Scott & Christine live about 40 minutes from the church, so make your car pooling arrangements now!

A sign-up sheet can be found in the church narthex. Please let us know if you’re coming so we’re sure to have plenty of food & refreshments on hand. Among other things, we’ll be discussing this year’s National Catholic Youth Conference. Many of our youth plan to attend this incredible event, which will be held this year in Kansas City from November 19-21.
