Holy Week Ecumenical Service

St. Mary hosted the Athens/McMinn Ministerial Association’s Holy Week Service on Wednesday, April 20th. Rev. Nicole Krewson of Keith Memorial United Methodist Church was the speaker.

Approximately 120 people attended the service, which was followed by a spaghetti lunch prepared by the ladies of the parish.

Chrism Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral

The annual Chrism Mass was celebrated at Sacred Heart Cathedral on Tuesday, April 19, 2011. At this Mass Bishop Stika blesses the Holy Oils and all of the priests of the diocese renew their vows. The priests return to their parishes with the oils for the coming year. I strongly encourage you to attend the Chrism Mass next year as it is a wonderful celebration of our faith.

Several St. Mary youth were in attendance and carried parish banners in the opening procession.

2nd Sunday of Lent

✞ The Gospel According to Matthew
(Matthew 17:1-9)

Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother,
and led them up a high mountain by themselves.
And he was transfigured before them;
his face shone like the sun
and his clothes became white as light.
And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them,
conversing with him.
Then Peter said to Jesus in reply,
“Lord, it is good that we are here.
If you wish, I will make three tents here,
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
While he was still speaking, behold,
a bright cloud cast a shadow over them,
then from the cloud came a voice that said,
“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased;
listen to him.”

When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate
and were very much afraid.
But Jesus came and touched them, saying,
“Rise, and do not be afraid.”
And when the disciples raised their eyes,
they saw no one else but Jesus alone.

As they were coming down from the mountain,
Jesus charged them,
“Do not tell the vision to anyone
until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”

This page provides a schedule of Lenten activities at St. Mary, as well as information that will help you more fully understand and utilize the season for your personal spiritual growth.

Hi Everyone! Please mark this event on your calendars and bring friends and family! This will be a unique experience and one that will get us on the road to a good and holy Lent! Free dinner each night in the cafeteria….Sunday night is the multi-cultural dinner…..there will even be an authentic roasted pig being prepared by the Korean and Philippine Catholic communities!…as well as other delightful fare….homemade tamales by our Latino community to name just one. Monday, John XXIII University parish will be providing a baked potato bar and yummy desserts. Fat Tuesday will be a lasagna dinner – bring a dessert to share if you can.

Paul George is a gifted, inspired speaker and Josh Blakesley is a very talented Catholic musician who will be leading music/worship. Fr. Jose Robles Sanchez is a passionate priest and gifted speaker as well and will be leading the Latino community in the gym in Spanish. Bring the teens and young adults for sure! Take a chance and come! All ages are welcome. Tuesday night there will be a beautiful chance to bless and pray for your families/loved ones. Bring a photo to the Mission or to church prior to the Mission. You will see large wooden hearts in the church vestibule where we will be placing photos of your families and loved ones leading up to the Mission. Don’t miss this opportunity to grow in holiness. You will be blessed!
